acknowledgements
The people, places and moments behind my work
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (noun) Recognising the people, places and moments that shape us.
I always turn first to the acknowledgements page in a book.
Who does the author thank?
Who helped them along the way?
Who influenced the thinking that ended up on the page?
No one writes a book alone.
Over the past four decades I have had two parallel careers.
One in showbusiness – performing improvisation with the London Comedy Store Players since 1985.
The other working with leaders and teams around the world, teaching communication, creativity and collaboration.
Both strands have taken me to fascinating places.
More importantly, they have introduced me to remarkable people.
Teachers.
Colleagues.
Clients.
Friends.
Acknowledgements is an occasional collection of stories about those people and places – and the moments that shaped what I think about communication, leadership and working with others.
Sometimes the story comes from a theatre.
Sometimes from a training room.
Often from the unexpected intersections between the two.
